Snowshill Manor

Yesterday morning, one of us  (and really there’s no need to mention any names) crashed and needed to just rest on the couch while the other one of us went into town and ran errands. After lunch, with spirits revived, we went to Snowshill Manor. Snowshill dates to at least the 16th century but its most notable for its last owner Charles Wade who is described as an eccentric - which is a vast understatement. He bought the house in 1919 not to live in - which he never did - but to hold his various collections. It reminded me of what I’ve heard of Wisconsin’s House on the Rock. The pictures below don’t do justice to how jam packed weird the place is.

The grounds and gardens were lovely too.

Afterwards we went to the cafe and had scones and clotted cream on the patio. It’s a very civilized custom and I don’t know why we don’t do it more often at home. After that it was back to Chipping Campden for a short rest before venturing out for dinner.

  1. Not your typical stately manor! Hello? You speak of scones, and yet no evidence.

    1. Believe me, I’m carrying the evidence with me and still will be when I see you next. National Trust scones are tasty but not photogenic 😄
