Hiking The Cotswold Way

The Cotswold Way is a 102 mile trail that starts here in Chipping Campden and goes to Bath.

We hiked some of it today. We did not hike the whole length of it today, but we hiked some. And it was VERY pretty.

Actually it was just a couple hour “proof of concept” hike. (The concept that needed proving being that I could hike for a couple hours without fainting. I can. The key seems to be to keep eating πŸ™‚) We’re hoping for some more serious hiking in the Lake District.
After the hike we dropped off our stuff at the house and headed in to town for lunch and

birthday cake.

From there we walked up to St. James church which was closed when we were there earlier in the week. Every year Chipping Campden has an international music festival in May which is why it was closed on Sunday. But today it was open and the festival academy orchestra was just getting set up for a rehearsal. So we stayed and listened to about half an hour of tonight’s concert featuring a world class pianist.(Dame Imogene Cooper).

Very fun. We ended our outing with a visit to the  Court Barn Museum which is dedicated to an arts and crafts movement that came to Chipping Campden in 1902 when C.R. Ashbee  moved his Guild of Handicraft - along with 50 workers and their families from London to here. The organization didn’t make it through an economic downturn in 1908 but some of the craft businesses - run by descendants, are still here today. Another full day!

  1. Hooray for hikig with no fainting. The landscape is sumptuous. Happy birthday Victoria; what a grand way to celebrate such a lovely person!
Rehearsals in old churches lift the spirits, even vicariously.
Hope the birthday cake was as good as it looks!!
